Zach Reading
Divided: Performance & Vocal score
Divided was written as part of MusicTheatreWales ‘Make an Aria’ project in Spring 2018. With libretto by fellow Bangor student Lucy Astbury, the aria is sung by the young girl Safina. Safina, the daughter of two immigrants who had come to a new country with the promise of a new life, is born into a foreign world that has failed to support her parents and driven them into poverty and ill health. Her aria explores her rage and sympathy for her parents situation, and her desire to help change it.”
Zach is a student in the School of Music and Media. He is a British composer undertaking an MPhil in composition. His particular interest is in composing accessible contemporary music by incorporating basic musical building blocks as the basis of a work. During his time at university he has had music played by the Benyounes Quartet, members of the BBC NOW, Music Theatre Wales, Bangor University Music Society and Concert Band.
